Reduce Environmental Impact

To further reduce environmental impact, we actively collaborate with upstream companies to establish nearby factories. This strategic approach significantly reduces transportation distances and public energy consumption.

PROJECTS

10

HWTZ Special Economic Zone

HWTZ has secured 1,200 acres of land in the Bagamoyo Special Economic Zone, approved by TISEZA, for the development of a multi-sector industrial park. The park will host diverse manufacturing activities—including truck assembly, steel structure fabrication, home appliances, furniture, and chemical products. This flagship project is poised to become a regional manufacturing hub, attracting further investment, creating jobs, and positioning Tanzania as a center of industrial excellence in East Africa.

01

Mining Operations: Iron, Titanium and Coal

HWTZ is undertaking large-scale mining and beneficiation of iron ore, coal, and titanium-bearing resources in Tanzania. These operations secure a stable supply of high-grade raw materials essential for, downstream steel production and captive power generation. The company holds strategic mining rights and operates state-of-the-art beneficiation facilities to produce quality concentrates.

02

Power Generation

To ensure a reliable and sustainable energy foundation for its industrial ecosystem, HWTZ is developing a diversified power portfolio. This includes a coal-fired power plant utilizing local coal reserves in Ludewa, complemented by solar photovoltaic installations. Surplus electricity is scheduled to be connected to the national grid operated by TANESCO, contributing to Tanzania’s energy security and regional grid stability.

03

Cement Production

Embracing circular economy principles, HWTZ converts tailings from its mining operations into cement. This cement is used primarily for the construction of the steel industrial park and associated infrastructure, significantly reducing project costs and minimizing environmental footprint.

04

Steel Manufacturing

Within the Ludewa Industrial Park, HWTZ operates an integrated steel complex that processes locally mined and beneficiated vanadium-titanium magnetite ore into a full spectrum of construction steel products—including rebar, plates, and profiles. These products are marketed across Tanzania and neighboring countries through a network of hardware markets in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Iringa, Makambako, and Mbeya.

05

Aluminum Smelting

As a key strategic initiative in HWTZ's expansion into Africa's non-ferrous metal sector, the company is investing USD 1 billion to construct a 500,000-ton-per-annum aluminum smelting project. Forming a joint venture with a Fortune Global 500 aluminum enterprise, the project integrates world-leading production technology and management expertise, ensuring global competitiveness in its smelting processes and operational standards.

06

Bulk Commodity Trading

HWTZ supplies several core products—steel billets, carbon structural steel, cathode copper, silicon steel and core, galvanized sheet, sulfur and bitumen—leveraging HWHG’s strong manufacturing base and direct mill sourcing. Integrated in-house processing ensures consistent quality and cost efficiency across the supply chain. To support this growing trade footprint, the company operates a large-scale bonded warehouse, enabling flexible inventory management, deferred duty costs, and just-in-time delivery to regional customers. The trading business serves industrial buyers and construction markets across East Africa, while strategically complementing HWTZ’s local steel production and expanding distribution network.

07

Logistics Network Development

To enable efficient movement of raw materials and finished steel products, HWTZ is establishing a comprehensive logistics network. This involves upgrading road transport corridors from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya and developing a lake transport route on Lake Nyasa/Lake Malawi. The integrated system will facilitate product distribution throughout East Africa, enhancing market reach and supply chain resilience.

08

Truck Assembly

As an integral part of its logistics strategy, HWTZ plans to set up a truck assembly plant within the Bagamoyo Industrial Park. The assembled heavy-duty trucks will be dedicated to transporting steel products and raw materials, ensuring fleet availability and operational efficiency. These trucks will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with the company’s green energy commitments.

09

LNG Infrastructure

HWTZ is building a complete LNG value chain to supply clean fuel for its transport fleet and industrial users. This includes an LNG processing plant in Somanga and a network of refueling stations in Dar es Salaam, Makambako, and Songea. The LNG project underscores the company’ s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable industrial practices.
